Passion, Determination and Client Satisfaction

By Alice B. Miller
Within six years’ time, Jeff and Julie Gandy transformed their photography hobby into a part-time business, and finally a full-time wedding and portrait studio in their Valdosta, Georgia, home. This is an impressive achievement for any start-up venture, but there’s more: The Gandys made the switch while working as registered nurses at South Georgia Medical Center–Jeff in the Cardiac ICU for 10 years, and Julie in Labor and Delivery for seven years. A series of subtle and dramatic life changes helped them reach their goal.
“The business was initially supposed to be a side job for extra income. We had enjoyed photography privately for years but never thought photography would replace our nursing careers,” says Julie. Fortunately, their schedules afforded them the freedom and flexibility a second career path requires. By 2004, photography was indeed becoming a viable business option for them. Julie cut back nursing to work part-time, eventually giving it up completely to focus on the business. Jeff did the same a year later. MORE >>

Congrats guys. The names made me actually read the newsletter when it appeared in my in-box this time. Considering I’ve been at SGMC since ‘94 – odds are high we’ve run into each other before.

La Dee Dah Art

Julie’s brother Chris and his wife Dawn have a brand new site and blog for their business. Check it out by going to www.ladeedahart.com or clicking the image below. Many of our customers tell us they know Chris and Dawn and rave about what an awesome job they do. Dawn has been painting custom art now for about nine years. She actually painted Hannah and Halle’s playroom a few years ago. If the room was not such a disaster, I would go take a picture and post for you to see. I’ll just tell you, she did an outstanding job and our girls love it. Check out the new site to see examples of her work. The bedroom in the image below belongs to Corbett and Caroline Hobby. They also happen to be customers of ours and are members of our Watch me Grow program.
